Get into Running

Are you keen to build up a regular routine of running or struggling to get into running? I can highly recommended the free podcast from i-tunes ‘NHS couch to 5 K’. This is a guided progressive running programme starting from a very basic level with intervals of 60 seconds jogging or running with 90 seconds walking and building up 30 minutes steady running over a nine week period. Basically you just follow the instructions and don’t have to worry about timings, music, when to start and stop, it’s all done for you with clear instructions and some tips along the way. I’ve also found it helpful as rehab for clients who have been out of running for a prolonged period due to injury and need to build up slowly and progressively. My only gripe with it is that it doesn’t include a stretching programme at the end which I think can be helpful – it does however have a warm-up and warm-down section. If you would like a free list of stretches to carry out at the end of your running session, e-mail me at info@physiosolutions.co.uk
